I am saddened to report that I do not teach science this year. I do consider it a strength of mine, but my teaching neighbor is even stronger. Here is a page from our electricity unit during the 2008-2009 school year. You may also find our unit on the moon phases interesting as well. That link can be found here.

You can also access our health unit here. This includes dissections of pig hearts, cow eyes, sheep brains, and lungs. Many downloads, photos, and resources are provided for use. Feel free to adapt and make changes as desired.

Electricity!

We recently learned about electricity in depth by working with our hands-on electricity kit in class. Included below are some videos and photos of our lessons. With each lesson, we added our thoughts, predictions, observations, and learnings in our science notebook. You can take a look inside of a science notebook at the bottom of this page.

Creating a Filament

This was our most dangerous experiment to date. Carefully, we worked on creating a filament and learning more about what is inside a lightbulb. Through heat we could tell the filament was working. Mrs. Vaughn also donated a strand of her hair to demonstrate the heat in ncrome wire.

Insulators and Conductors

We talked about insulators and conductors through items in our home, Brainpop, and a Science Court video. This was then followed up with learning about them through the scientific process. Through our science notebook we predicted which items would be a conductor or insulator. Here is a sample of the testing process.

Notebook Tour

I do have photo examples of a student's science notebook. I plan on posting that here in another two weeks.
